Blackpink’s Lisa has achieved another big milestone in her solo career. On Saturday, May 25th, the ‘MONEY’ performance video officially surpassed 1 billion views on YouTube. Her achievement this time makes her the second female K-pop soloist to surpass that figure on the platform.
The first person to do so was Blackpink Jennie. Her debut solo single ‘SOLO’ hit the milestone on Thursday, February 29th. With this achievement, she becomes the second K-pop solo artist to do so, following PSY’s viral hit song ‘Gangnam’ in December 2012. style.”
The ‘MONEY’ performance video that achieved 1 billion views is impressive enough in itself, but what makes this achievement even more noteworthy is the fact that the track was not promoted as a single.
This song was released along with Blackpink Lisa’s debut single album. Lalisa, September 2021. This album includes “Lalisa” as the lead single and “MONEY” as a b-side song. The latter was as successful as “Lalisa” after it went viral online, despite not receiving the same amount of promotion. As it received a lot of attention from fans and the general public, ‘MONEY’ achieved organic success, ranking 10th on the Billboard Global 200 and 90th on the Billboard Hot 100.
Even after all these years, the track continues to draw big numbers. In September 2023, ‘MONEY’ also surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. The feat helped BLACKPINK’s Lisa earn a Guinness World Record for having the first K-pop track to reach the milestone on the platform.
