yet again,There isn’t much love between Bill Barr and Donald Trump, who has been accused of betraying the Oval Office. When the former attorney general confirmed this week that he would support the Republican presidential nominee in November, his former boss took the opportunity to mock Barr as “slow-moving” and “lazy.”
When asked about the insult by CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on Friday, Barr laughed and said, “That’s typical Trump.” “What’s your question?”
He went on to express frustration with the fact that voters were faced with a rematch between Joe Biden and Trump. But given that choice, Barr explained in the same interview, he would gladly vote for Trump, who has routinely mentioned the idea of executing his rivals.
“But he’s mocking you.” Collins pressed.
“So? It’s not about me.”
This support, despite the occasional criticism, is consistent with much of what Barr has already told us. As he said during his 2022 book tour, “I believe the greatest threat to the country is the progressive agenda promoted by the Democratic Party. It is inconceivable to me that I would not vote for a Republican candidate.” This statement is almost identical to the one he told CNN to assert that “the progressive movement and the Biden administration” are the biggest threat facing America today.
For Barr, these comments fit the story he continues to tell. Above all else, he is just a law enforcement officer who sticks to his principles and does his job faithfully, having to make difficult choices. Of course, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
