Conservatives are accusing President Biden of using the death of former President Jimmy Carter on Sunday to take a jab at President Donald Trump.
Asked Sunday what his former Republican rival could learn from Carter’s presidency, Biden responded: “Dignity, decency, decency.”
“Can you imagine Jimmy Carter walking past someone who needed something and continuing to walk?” Biden said. “Can you imagine Jimmy Carter commenting on someone’s appearance or the way they speak?”
The political comments didn’t sit well with conservatives, who ripped Biden, 82, for using the opportunity to attack and boldly talk about “decency” instead of simply honoring Carter’s legacy.

Another radio host, Hugh Hewitt, also commented on Biden’s use of the word “decency.”
“Is it ‘okay’ to deceive the American public for years about your condition and to do so through a complicit and complacent legacy media?” Hewitt spoke on the site, noting the elderly president’s mental and physical faculties were clearly ailing.
“The biggest cover-up and biggest media scandal in modern American political history has yet to be acknowledged on the record by anyone around President Biden and virtually every member of the establishment media. Their sunk costs are enormous, but they are not going to release them and own up to the cover-up or collusion,” Hewitt said.
Legal analyst Jonathan Turley noted that Carter, unlike Biden, did not pardon family members involved in corruption scandals. Biden infamously pardoned his son Hunter for nearly 11 years after repeatedly pledging not to do so on the campaign trail, while Carter did not pardon his brother Billy despite questions about loans he received from Libya.
“Instead of demonstrating Carter’s honesty, Biden forgave his own son after lying for years and then repeatedly denying he would do so during the campaign,” Turley wrote. “He pardoned his son for all crimes committed over a decade, including potential crimes that the president himself believes were involved in influence operations for millions of people.”
Carter, the 39th president, passed away on Sunday at the age of 100. In the wake of his death, both parties, including Trump, have come forward to praise his legacy and longevity.
“Fortunately, those who have served as president understand that this is a very exclusive club, and only we can empathize with the enormous responsibility of leading the greatest nation in history,” the president-elect wrote on Truth Social.
“The challenges Jimmy faced as president came at a pivotal time for our country, and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that we all owe him a debt of gratitude.”
The White House did not immediately respond to inquiries from The Post on Monday.
