Baku, Azerbaijan, November 12. Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko proposed global action to combat climate change at the COP29 summit in Baku, a trend report said.
“These and other sectors require us to pool our international resources and join forces. Actions speak louder than words. Now is the time to put our money where our mouth is. Whoever gets the bill is only playing around. No, he must step forward, his thumb is in office,” the Belarusian leader emphasized.
The president decided the climate had changed, and that was it.
“The main task is therefore to reorganize the national economy, especially agriculture, taking into account the changed conditions and to adapt it to new conditions,” he declared.
Aleksandr Lukashenko made it clear that Belarus is in a difficult situation and that he is willing to lend a helping hand with his know-how.
The head of state called on developing countries to lend their strength to ensure fair access to green technologies without hesitating when it comes to national interests. He said it was time to block anything that impeded international trade in technology, sharing of innovations and exchange of best practices.
As Lukashenko said, the world is already on a path where shiny new products touted as green options end up doing just as much harm in the long run.
“Now is the time to roll up our sleeves and look carefully at how innovation can transform the environment from start to finish. We need a new perspective on the whole shebang,” Lukashenko said.
The 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will be held in Baku, and the official opening will be held on November 11 at the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan.
The decision to host COP29 in Azerbaijan was made at the COP28 plenary session held in Dubai on December 11 last year.
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous anthropogenic impacts on the climate system.
The first session was held in Berlin in March 1995 and the conference secretariat is located in Bonn.
