Barcelona’s start to the La Liga season is getting better and better. On Sunday they completely demolished Sevilla with a 5-1 win at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, moving them three points clear at the top of the table.
As expected, Robert Lewandowski was on fire. He scored twice, with substitute Pablo Torre scoring two of his own to cement Barcelona’s dominance throughout the game.
First half offensive
Barça wasted no time in asserting their authority. The first half was all about them, with three goals scored in just 15 minutes. Lewandowski got the party started with a penalty kick in the 24th minute after Raphinha fell from behind. Four minutes later, Pedri made it 2-0 with a rocket into the top corner.
Lewandowski then had his second of the night, getting his toe on Raphinha’s low drive and sneaking past Sevilla goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.
The goal keeps flowing
Raphinha thought he had added another goal just after the break, but an offside flag spoiled his celebrations. Sevilla suffered a similar fate when Dodi Lucebacchio’s strike was canceled out in the 72nd minute.
Pablo Torre entered the game and was quick to get on the scoresheet with a neat finish from inside the box to make it 4-0. Sevilla scored a consolation goal through Stannis Idumbo in the 87th minute, but Torre did not. He rounded off the scoring moments later with a stunning free kick.
Lewandowski and Torre Shine
Currently, Barcelona is comfortably in the lead with 27 points, 3 points ahead of Real Madrid and 7 points ahead of Atletico Madrid. Meanwhile, Sevilla is in 13th place with 12 points.
Barcelona’s attack has been relentless lately, with 13 goals scored in the last three games. This is their best scoring start in La Liga since their first 10 games since 2012-13, and they have already found the net 31 times this season.
With 12 goals in 10 games, Lewandowski is in Messi territory. He is the first player to achieve this milestone since Messi achieved it in 2019-20.
And let’s not forget Lamine Yamal. Despite injury fears, he recorded his sixth assist of the season, becoming the first Barça player to do so since Messi in 2014-15.
