The Bangladesh senior men’s team will begin their two-Test away series against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on August 21, but the current civil war in the country after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country looks uncertain. The Bangladesh senior team is scheduled to play the two-Test matches in Rawalpindi (August 21-25) and Karachi (August 30-September 3), but the current situation may make it difficult for the national team to embark on a full-scale away tour. The shadow tour of Bangladesh A has also become uncertain. Former Test captain Mominul Haq was due to play for Bangladesh A in the series against Pakistan Shaheens (A).
According to PCB sources in the know of the incident, the PCB has also offered to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to send a Test team to Rawalpindi as soon as possible to ensure the series goes ahead.
“PCB has offered to accommodate the players for a few more days before the Test match and provide full training facilities in Rawalpindi, but there has been no response yet,” he said.
The BCB on Monday postponed the A team’s arrival in Pakistan by 48 hours, casting major doubt on the match between the two countries’ senior men’s teams.
The crisis has deepened further after reports emerged that the homes of some key players were attacked by mobs, as the A team was due to arrive in Pakistan tomorrow and the Test team was due to meet on August 17.
Team A’s first four-day fixture is scheduled to begin on August 11. Bangladesh have not toured Pakistan since 2019-20.
PCB sources said the board is trying its best to stay in touch with the BCB but communication is very difficult given the circumstances.
“With BCB Chairman Nazmul Hossain Papon also out of the country, it appears the board is not functioning properly,” he said.
