The premise of the movie (no spoilers, promise) is that Nicole Kidman’s character, 57-year-old CEO Romy Mathis, has an affair with a 28-year-old intern played by Harris Dickinson.
Well, all you need is internet I love you To discuss, it’s an age gap relationship like the one in the movie. And in a recent interview with W Magazine: baby girl Director Halina Reijn gets real about why age gap relationships depicted in movies aren’t really a big deal.
“I think it’s strange when you see a movie where the male actor is the same age as the female actor. It’s crazy,” she said. “The age gap needs to change and the fact that women have different relationships needs to become completely normalized.”
“We’re no longer trapped in a box. We internalize the male gaze, we internalize the patriarchy, and we have to break free from that. It’s really hard.”
