Hudson Meek, a child actor best known for his role in the 2017 film “Baby Driver,” has died, authorities said. He was 16 years old.
The Jefferson County Coroner confirmed to CBS News that Meek died on December 21 at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He suffered blunt force injuries two days earlier when he fell from a moving vehicle, according to the coroner’s report.
The coroner said the circumstances surrounding Meek’s death were being investigated by Vestavia Hills police station, a suburb of Birmingham, where the actor lived and where the incident occurred.
On Sunday, Meek’s Instagram account announced that he had died, but no details were shared about what happened.
“Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Mick went home to be with Jesus tonight. His 16 years on this earth were too short, but he accomplished so much and had such a great impact on everyone he met. Crazy,” the post’s caption read in part.
Meek’s memorial service will be held this Saturday, December 28, at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama, and will be available to watch live, according to a second post and obituary shared on social media Wednesday.
The obituary described him as “reflective and thoughtful” but “persistent when his mind was set on something.”
“Hudson’s personality was unique,” he said. “He was self-confident, confident in his convictions, spontaneous and witty. He never allowed facts to get in the way of a funny story and loved a friendly joke. He was a prankster, loved a good joke and was the happiest. “When you make other people laugh.”
Meek was a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, where he played football, was a member of the school choir and a member of the Christian Athletes Fellowship, according to the obituary. His acting career began in 2017 when he played a younger version of Ansel Elgort’s title character in the action crime film ‘Baby Driver’.
