Baku, Azerbaijan, December 13. Azerbaijan is implementing additional advantages for highly skilled immigrants, the Trend report said.
This issue was reflected in the proposed amendments to the immigration law and the “Law on State Obligations” discussed at the Azerbaijani Parliament session on December 13.
According to the proposed amendments to the immigration law, highly qualified immigrants are defined as foreigners and stateless persons who have received a positive response to their applications under a program designed to attract skilled professionals to the Azerbaijani labor market.
The draft bill proposes several benefits for highly qualified immigrants. It includes provisions to issue entry visas to these immigrants for business purposes, add them to the list of individuals eligible for temporary and permanent residence permits, and subject them to temporary residence periods specified in Article 49.2 of the Immigration Act. The draft also proposes exempting the spouses and children under 23 of highly qualified immigrants from labor immigration quotas when issuing work permits.
Following amendments to the National Obligations Act, the document aims to reduce the processing time for the issuance and renewal of temporary and permanent residence permits for highly qualified immigrants, their children under 23 years of age, and other family members. 10 working days for a temporary residence permit and 10 working days for a permanent residence permit).
Additionally, the proposed changes to Section 18.58-1 of the Act would extend the shortened work permit issuance and renewal period for spouses and children under age 23 of highly qualified immigrants.
The draft law was put to a vote and passed on first reading.
