Building on the work we and our partners have been doing for many years, Amazon is investing up to $100 million in cloud technologies and technical resources to help existing dedicated learning organizations create new, innovative digital learning solutions to reach more learners. there is. Part of the AWS Education Equity Initiative.
Work so far
AWS and Amazon have a long-standing commitment to learning and education. Here’s a sample of what we’ve already done:
AWS AI and ML Scholarship Program – The program has awarded $28 million in scholarships to approximately 6,000 students.
machine learning university – MLU offers free programs to help teach data management, artificial intelligence, and machine learning concepts at community colleges and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The program is designed to close the opportunity gap by supporting students who are historically underrepresented and underrepresented in technology fields.
Amazon Future Engineer – As of 2021, the program has awarded up to $46 million in scholarships to 1,150 students. Last year, more than 2.1 million students received more than 17 million hours of STEM education, literacy, and career exploration courses through this and other Amazon Philanthropic Education programs in the United States. I was able to speak at one such session last year and it was an amazing experience.
free cloud training – In late 2020, we set a goal to help 29 million people build their technical skills through free cloud computing training by 2025. We worked hard and achieved that goal a year ago!
There’s more to do
Despite all this effort and progress, there is still more work to be done. The future is certainly not evenly distributed. Today, over 500 million students lack access to digital learning.
We believe that Generative AI can amplify the great work already being done by socially minded edtech organizations, nonprofits, and governments. Our goal is to help students build new, innovative digital learning systems that allow them to scale their work and reach wider audiences.
With the launch of the AWS Education Equity Initiative, we want to help pave the way for the next generation of technology pioneers to build powerful tools, train large-scale foundational models, and create AI-based educational assistants.
We plan to invest up to $100 million in cloud technology and comprehensive technology advisory over the next five years. Winners will have access to the AWS service portfolio and technical expertise to build and scale learning management systems, mobile apps, chatbots, and other digital learning tools. As part of the application process, applicants will be asked to demonstrate how their proposed solution will benefit students from underrepresented and underrepresented communities.
As I mentioned earlier, our partners are already doing a lot of great work in this area. for example:
Code.org already uses AWS to deliver free computer science curriculum to millions of students in more than 100 countries. This initiative will expand the use of Amazon Bedrock to provide automated evaluation of student projects, freeing up educators’ time for individualized instruction and personalized learning.
rocket learning It focuses on early childhood education in India. They will use QuickSight’s Amazon Q to improve learning outcomes for more than 3 million children.
I am very excited about this initiative and how it will help us nurture and educate the next generation of technology pioneers!
