Perth’s Optus Stadium will host Australia’s matches in the 2025 Bledisloe Cup series.
The decision to bring the game west in a season that will be highlighted by the British and Irish Lions tour was confirmed by WA government officials on Monday.
The Wallabies are scheduled to play three matches in The Rugby Championship in Australia next year. The remaining two games will be against Argentina.
Perth Bledisloe takes place at Optus on Saturday 4 October.
The Wallabies will also return to Townsville to face Argentina at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on September 6. The match will be the first Rugby Championship Test at home in 2025.
The two sides clashed at the same venue in the COVID-19 affected 2021 Rugby Championship, with the Men in Gold recording a 27-8 win in front of a near-capacity crowd of over 23,000.
The two sides are scheduled to meet again a week later on September 13 at Allianz Stadium in Sydney.
Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh said in a statement: “We are delighted to be able to confirm the Test schedule for next year’s Wallabies Home Rugby Championship.”
“We again saw massive support for this year’s game in Perth with over 58,000 supporters at Optus Stadium for the South Africa game. I am sure there will be great interest when the Bledisloe Cup Test returns to Western Australia next year.
“Being able to return to Townsville demonstrates our commitment to making our national team more accessible to more Australians and we look forward to returning to Sydney next week, where the Wallabies have always had a strong support base.”
“The Bledisloe Cup is a much-loved sporting event that has been a huge success in Perth, so we’re thrilled to be bringing it back in 2025 during the golden age of rugby,” says WA Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti. I told Nine.
The Bledisloe Cup holds the record for attendance at a sporting event at Optus Stadium, with 61,000 people attending to see the Wallabies win 47-26 in 2019. They also hosted a match when England tour under Eddie Jones in 2022.
“It’s a huge coup for the Bledisloe Cup to be the only competition on Australian soil next year,” Saffioti said.
“Due to the passion and enthusiasm that rugby fans in particular have for this event, we expect many will travel across the country to see this spectacle.”
She said the city had made a bid to host the 2027 World Cup.
“We have put in a bid for the Rugby World Cup to be part of that in 2027, so we want to continue to support the game in WA.”
