The first day of the two-day pink ball game between India and Prime Minister’s XI was washed out due to incessant rain.
Playability was slim due to a bedding of rain that continued from almost 10am until 5.30pm, during which time the covers remained firmly in place. The Indian team came to ground but there was little reason to hold on.
The rain briefly abated later in the day and there was a flurry of activity, with covers being lifted and support staff from both teams receiving briefings from both referees. But when field staff restored the cover, packed up and left at 6.30pm, it was clear there would be no crickets. There was even more rain at 7pm.
The match is scheduled to resume at 2.40pm on Sunday with 50 overs. Tickets for Saturday’s play will be refunded.
The second Test was a day-night match in Adelaide on December 6, with India scoring 36 runs in the last over.
