One of the best games of the year, Astro Bot served as a reminder of just how good the IP PlayStation does and doesn’t use, but that may be changing.
Astro Bot, which won the coveted Game of the Year award at this year’s The Game Awards, is a beloved PlayStation title, but there are far too many titles that haven’t seen a new game in forever. Some, like Spyro and Crash, are out of PlayStation’s hands these days because they’re owned by Xbox, while others, like Okami, are third-party, but they’re getting sequels anyway! Still, there were plenty of classic games that could honestly be related to others, like Ape Escape, Gravity Rush, and Bloodborne.

There’s no real word on whether any new of these games will be released, and the last two seem highly unlikely, but PlayStation president Hermen Hulst has stated that the company is interested in bringing back some older titles.
“The diverse IP we own is an important asset to PlayStation, and we are constantly looking for opportunities to leverage our past IP as part of our efforts to strengthen our portfolio,” Hulst said in an interview with Famitsu (translated by VGC). “It’s about publishing games from the world’s best creators, both internally and externally, and we’ve had a lot of success to date by working closely with external development studios.”
I hope that doesn’t mean Ape Escape will return as a gacha game where you can pick up different apes. (Although it may not sound like a bad concept as of this writing) Sony prioritizes live services above all else. Otherwise, anything is possible, even if it doesn’t go smoothly. Please at least give me a Bloodborne remaster, Sony, please…
