The north London club’s €60m (£50.28m) Brazilian winger sounded very confident when discussing his team’s performance once the Premier League resumes (via Football.London). “We can’t wait to play this game and we’ll be ready.”
Arne Slot’s men will travel to London to face Mikel Artera’s side at the Emirates Stadium for their ninth league match of the campaign.
With a tough schedule ahead of them, Liverpool will need to listen to Martinelli.
The Reds manager has made it clear on several occasions that his team is yet to face the best sides this season. Things will change quickly once the international break ends. They will face Chelsea and RB Leipzig in the Champions League before heading to the Emirates.
Things get even more difficult during matches between Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and Manchester City in late November and early December.
There is a reason why Martinelli is feeling confident ahead of Liverpool’s trip to north London. The Brazil international’s record against us is more than reasonable, with seven goals in ten games. If Slot can keep the attacker quiet later this October, it will certainly increase our chances of getting out of the Emirates unscathed.
However, the 23-year-old has lost five of those ten matches and won just two. While his comments were not a direct criticism of Liverpool, the squad must match this confidence with strong performances on the field.
The six-time Champions League winners have not beaten the Gunners in the Premier League since March 2022 and will aim to show Arteta’s side that they are serious title contenders.
