Liverpool fans need no reminder that they currently have three very important players in the final year of their contracts and Arne Slot has requested an update on Virgil van Dijk.
Speaking ahead of the Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion, the Dutchman said: “If players don’t perform as well as they are now, their contract situation becomes an issue.
“All three are in a good place right now and doing really, really well. There are ongoing discussions with the people Virgil said we should talk to, but you know that’s not me. I talk to him about other things.
“Virgil is right that he doesn’t know what his future holds if he hasn’t signed the contract yet.”
That’s as much as we’d expect from a manager who holds his cards close to his chest on this matter.

Virgil van Dijk’s future remains unclear
You could forgive the 46-year-old for feeling bored with hearing the same thing said twice a week about injuries and contracts. Another fitness update sounds very similar to the last game against the Seagulls.
But this is something we really care about as supporters. Because we are eager to know who we will play in the next game and what the future holds for our best players.
