Liverpool are top of the league and coming off a stunning win over Tottenham, but Arne Slot is still demanding more from his players.
It’s a scoreline we don’t see very often and if you score 6 it’s usually a good day, but whenever you score 3 you could say the opposite.
So when our manager spoke to the media after the game, his frustration was understandable.
The 46-year-old said: “I was very happy that we scored 3-1, 4-1, 5-1. It was an amazing result.
“But you’ve also seen that no matter how good the players are, if they don’t think they need to play any more, and in this league, especially against Tottenham, because they’re so good on the ball, they start playing right away and make it happen.
“And that’s what they did, they scored two goals and I was happy that (Liverpool’s) sixth goal went in evenly.”
It may seem harsh to say this about his players, but he must ensure that the highest standards are maintained within the club.
Arne Slott has set a very high bar at Liverpool.
It was clear from the reactions of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker that they did not like the ball hitting the back of the net.
Mo Salah looked at the cameras after the game and called on his teammates to do more defending. Because the whole club must realize that there is a real chance of ultimate success this campaign.
Rather than focusing on breaking scoring records, we all just need to focus on getting points on the board and winning in May.
If we can take anything from the narrow shortcomings of the past 10 years, it is that we know for sure that we cannot take our eyes off the prize.
Luis Diaz’s goal secured our victory, but his manager was apparently still unnerved by what happened in the quick-fire double we conceded at the other end.
We can now be confident that the players will be committed to beating Leicester City on Boxing Day and keeping their buffer at the top.
