Astro Bot is set to release its own game in September, but if you’re still on the fence about whether or not to give it a try, here’s some new gameplay that might help.
Back in May, PlayStation finally revealed the long-rumored Astro Bot sequel, giving us a taste of what the platforming action would look like in a much-expanded form. We had a few previews of the game last month, which were generally very favorable, and now it looks like a demo that the press was able to get their hands on is now available to try out at ChinaJoy 2024. The gameplay, which you can check out below, shows off a few levels, one of which is mostly a boss fight against a giant octopus monster. The level sees Astro grab a boxing glove, punch and swing at enemies to take them down, and swing at them to take them down in a big way.
The second is a fairly challenging level set in space, which coincidentally features Jack and Daxter as cameos, and you have to save them. Finally, there’s another difficult level with tricky platforming, and this one requires you to save the player character from Journey. This seems to continue throughout the game, and considering there are over 150 classic PlayStation characters in the game, there’s bound to be plenty of difficult levels to come (though I imagine some of them will be cameos).

Overall, it looks pretty good, which is reassuring since the PS5 pack demo Astro’s Playroom was surprisingly fun. While it was primarily intended to show off the PS5’s new features, like haptic feedback and triggers, the full sequel will expand to over 80 levels. If the gameplay is anything to go by, you should be able to get it on PS5 later this year, on September 6th.
