Archie Vaughan is following in the footsteps of his father Michael after being appointed captain of the England Under-19 team.
Vaughan senior has led his country in 51 Tests, including a famous Ashes victory in 2005, but first captained his country at Under-19 level in 1993/94.
Son Archie, who broke into the Somerset team as an all-rounder last season, has now secured the same honor for the upcoming tour of South Africa.
His team is scheduled to face the Proteas in three youth ODIs and two youth Tests in Cape Town and Stellenbosch from January 17 to February 6.
“Getting the opportunity to represent England at this level is really special in itself, but leading the team is something else,” said the 19-year-old.
“If someone had told me 12 months ago that I would have been in the Somerset first team and captained the under-19s, I wouldn’t have believed them.
“It happened quickly, but I will keep my feet on the ground and work even harder.
“The next step is to win in South Africa. I hope I can do well too.”
The 18-man squad is managed by Michael Yardi and includes 16-year-old off-spinner Farhan Ahmed, the younger brother of England international Rehan, highly-rated leg-spinner Taziem Ali and Durham pace prospect James Minto.
