Just two days ago, news broke that Carol Surface, Apple’s first chief people officer, was leaving the company after a brief 18-month run.
Today, Apple’s new vice president of talent, Sjoerd Gehring, almost certainly has something to do with it.

Apple Inc.’s top recruiting executive is leaving to become chief people officer at investment firm Citadel, marking another significant departure for the iPhone maker’s tumultuous human resources department, according to people familiar with the matter.
Sjoerd Gehring, a vice president who oversaw management of Apple’s talent management, immigration, recruiting and global HR teams, will join the Miami-based hedge fund next month, said the people, who asked not to be identified because of lack of publicity. Shared publicly.
Obviously, when one domino falls, another domino falls. When Surface left Apple, the company announced that her role would be given to retail chief Deirdre O’Brien.
Gehring was likely to be at the top of Apple’s list of new chief people officers, but his decision to leave the role meant his prospects for promotion were diminished.
