The 6th generation iPad mini has been available since 2021. Despite featuring Apple’s new design language for the iPad, the small but powerful tablet is set to at least get a spec bump. Fortunately, that seems to be exactly what Apple has in mind this fall.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman tweeted that Apple is running dangerously low on iPad mini stock. According to Gurman, “Many Apple stores are running low on several configurations of the iPad mini, while internally at Apple the device is considered “constrained.” This could be a sign that a new product is on the way. It hasn’t been updated since 2021. I wouldn’t be surprised to see one updated for AI.”
What features will the new iPad mini have?
The obvious upgrade to the next iPad mini is the new processor. With Apple Intelligence coming up, we can be sure that the company will be making every possible device work with its AI capabilities. With that in mind, it’s very likely that the next iPad mini will feature an M-Series chip to support Apple’s AI ambitions.
Chip bump aside, the next iPad mini will likely feature fairly modest upgrades to the camera, storage, and connectivity hardware. Personally, I’d love to see Apple bring the beautiful OLED display of the M4 iPad Pro to a smaller tablet, but it’ll likely be at least another generation before that actually happens.
Apple will be holding an “It’s Glowtime” event on September 9th. The company is expected to announce the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, Apple Watch X, and AirPods 4. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PST on September 9th. If we don’t see the new iPad mini there, the company is expected to make a press release in October.
