Learn more about your surroundings with one click through Visual Intelligence.
The new visual intelligence experience is powered by Apple Intelligence and helps users instantly learn about objects and places thanks to new camera controls in the iPhone 16 lineup. Visual intelligence can summarize and copy text, translate text between languages, detect phone numbers or email addresses with the option to add them to contacts, and more. Camera controls also allow users to search Google to see where they can purchase an item, or utilize ChatGPT’s problem-solving skills to request explanations for complex diagrams, such as class notes. You can control when third-party tools are used and what information is shared with them.
Use ChatGPT with Siri and authoring tools
Apple is enabling ChatGPT access in Siri and the Writing Tools experience within iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, giving users access to expert knowledge, as well as image and document understanding capabilities, without having to jump between applications. ChatGPT integration allows Siri to suggest ChatGPT access to users for specific requests, and Siri can provide responses directly.
Compose allows users to ask ChatGPT to generate content for whatever they are composing in any system-wide composition tool. You can also use ChatGPT’s image creation feature to add images along with your written content.
Users can choose whether or not to enable ChatGPT integration and have full control over when to use it and what information to share with ChatGPT. By default, you don’t need a ChatGPT account to use this integration. When you use ChatGPT without an account, OpenAI doesn’t save your requests and doesn’t use your data to train models. Additionally, your IP address is hidden to prevent sessions from linking together. Those who choose to link their accounts are subject to OpenAI’s Data Use Policy.
More features are coming soon.
Additional Apple Intelligence features will be available in the coming months. Siri will become even more capable with the ability to leverage users’ personal circumstances to provide personalized intelligence. Siri will also get on-screen recognition and be able to perform hundreds of new tasks in Apple and third-party apps. Priority notifications also show you what’s most important. Image Playground also allows users to create images in Sketch style, an academic and highly detailed style that combines a vibrant color palette with technical lines to create realistic drawings.
Groundbreaking advancements in protecting personal information in AI
Designed to protect your privacy at every step, Apple Intelligence uses on-device processing. That means many of the models that power Apple Intelligence run entirely on the device. For requests that require access to larger models, Private Cloud Compute provides more information by extending the privacy and security of iPhone to the cloud. When you use private cloud computing, your data is not stored or shared with Apple. It is only used to fulfill your request. Independent experts can and already do verify this privacy promise on an ongoing basis by examining the code running on Apple silicon servers. This is an incredible step forward for privacy in AI.
