Apple announces :br(xl)::br(l)::br(m):winners of the 2024 Apple Design Awards
Winners from around the world will be recognized at WWDC24 for their outstanding design and technical excellence in apps and games.
Today, Apple revealed the winners of its annual Apple Design Awards, which recognize the 14 best apps and games. This year’s honorees include development teams from around the world, selected for outstanding design, technical achievement and innovation.
“It’s inspiring to see how developers are using our technology to create great apps and games that improve the lives of their users,” said Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. She said, “This year’s winners have demonstrated how apps can create powerful and moving experiences, and we are excited to celebrate their hard work and creativity at this year’s WWDC.”
Seven different categories recognize one app and game each in the following categories: Fun & Fun, Inclusiveness, Innovation, Interactivity, Social Impact, Visuals & Graphics, and New Spatial Computing. The final winner was selected from 42 people.
joy and fun
Winners in this category deliver memorable, engaging, and rewarding experiences powered by Apple technology.
app: to have a grateful heart
developer: Isuru Wanasinghe (Australia)
Bears Gratitude is a simple way to encourage and embrace honest self-reflection. Journaling apps provide a welcome way to establish a daily gratitude practice. Carefully crafted characters within the app create a sense of warmth and normality, helping users build happiness each day.
game: NYT Games
developer: New York Times Company (USA)
NYT Games has redesigned navigation and expanded its game catalog with a compelling mix of titles. New titles like Connections are tailored to maximize replay value through elegant design and ease of use, creating an experience where everyone can join in on the fun.

Winners in this category support people from different backgrounds, abilities and languages, creating great experiences for everyone.

Informing pedestrians of traffic light conditions through tactile and audio feedback, oko is an app that has an immediate impact on people with visual impairments. A powerful solution for critical safety scenarios that leverages Apple technologies including VoiceOver and Dynamic Type.

A colorful adventure game that offers a variety of creation options for every player, Crayola Adventures offers a vibrant selection of characters with a variety of skin colors, abilities, body types, pronouns, and full game narration. Featuring a variety of activities including making decorations, solving puzzles, reading storybooks, and more, this fun gaming experience is fun for all ages.

Procreate Dreams is an amazing design tool that allows creators of all kinds to create 2D animations using the extensive and familiar library of brushes, gestures, and PencilKit-enabled actions from the original Procreate. Controls are very intuitive, supporting both multitouch interaction and Apple Pencil. The app provides powerful animation effects, audio, and video to bring your creations and artwork to life.

Rytmos challenges players to solve puzzles by creating paths using simple drag movements, and every level completed adds a new element to the evolving song. Brightly designed onboarding makes gameplay immediately clear, and gestures remain simple and fun even when the game starts to get more complex.

Gentler Streak aims to improve the lifestyle of everyone, no matter who they are or where they are. The app is powered by optimistic and encouraging notifications that take into account both physical health and mental well-being. Health data is smartly organized and seamlessly integrated to help users carefully track exercise, rest and health. The monthly summary view shows users how they are doing in relation to their history, focusing on personal progress rather than comparison to others.

In the visual novel The Wreck, players follow the story of Junon, a writer who is suddenly called to the hospital to make a life-changing decision that will impact his family forever. The game is compellingly written, with a deep, intimate narrative that reflects stressful situations, and a nuanced and powerful gameplay experience that forces players to think about their choices.

Rooms gives users an empty space to create imaginative scenes, a platform for cozy games, and a social space to interact with the creations of thousands of other people. The rooms within the app are filled with delightful details, and the app’s interactions, sounds, and visuals strike a balance between whimsy and charm.
game:P’s lie
developer: Neowiz (Korea)
Lies of P is an imaginative adventure retelling the classic tale, putting players in control of a robot puppet created by Geppetto. Geppetto must survive a battle march through a burned-out city to find his maker. The visuals showcase a world of beautiful textures, detailed lighting, and stunning effects, while visual customization options like MetalFX upscaling on Mac and volumetric fog effects allow users to style the game however they want.
