Bollywood actress and India stalwart Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma was recently seen posing with India’s rising sensation Nitish Kumar Reddy’s family at the MCG after a play on the second day of the Boxing Day Test. The picture, which is going viral on social media, shows Anushka Sharma posing with Nitish Kumar Reddy’s parents and sister.
Anushka’s support for Virat Kohli continues in Melbourne too
Anushka is currently in Melbourne to support her husband Virat Kohli. She was seen several times in the stands cheering for him during the ongoing Border-Gavaskar series. Kohli, one of India’s most celebrated cricketers, is currently in the midst of a dangerous Test series. However, Anushka’s presence was a source of support for the Indian star.
Meanwhile, Nitish Kumar Reddy’s family is also in Melbourne to support their son. Nitish made his Test debut for Team India in the first Test of the series. Since then, he has continued to impress not only with the ball but also with the bat. In the three Tests he played, he scored 179 runs at an average of 44.75 and looked like one of India’s most solid batsmen on the tour. Moreover, he also took three wickets.
Boxing Day Test: Australia lead.
The Boxing Day Test at the iconic MCG saw Australia take the lead after the second day. Australia posted a massive total of 474 runs, led by Steve Smith’s brilliant 140 and Usman Khawaja’s 57. Despite India’s efforts, the visitors were trailing by 310 runs at stumps and India were 164 for 5.
India’s response saw early wickets fall as Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul struggled. However, young Yashasvi Jaiswal, with a brilliant 82, and Kohli, with 36, launched a brief counterattack. But their efforts were thwarted when Australia’s late surge, led by Scott Boland, proved too much. Jaiswal’s unfortunate omission and Kohli’s dismissal in quick succession gave India a tough upturn.
Kohli and Jaiswal’s counterattack was halted.
India’s pair of Jaiswal and Kohli started building a promising partnership after India lost early wickets. Jaiswal’s attacking approach, especially against the short ball, gave India some respite. His six off Mitchell Marsh was the highlight before he was run out in a dramatic moment when a sharp ball from Pat Cummins left him short of the crease.
Determined to silence his critics and regain his form, Kohli looked steadfast throughout his stay. His crisp cover drive and Starc’s powerful flick added hope but he fell to Boland’s perfect line and length to put India in a precarious position.
