Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci said Wednesday he would work “relentlessly” to support whichever Democratic nominee opposes Donald Trump in the November election.
“If the person, whether it’s President Joe Biden or any other candidate, focuses on what (Trump) is doing, which is hate and victimhood, they will beat Trump in November,” Scaramucci told CNN’s Jake Tapper.
Scaramucci, who served briefly in the Trump administration in 2017, declined to say whether Biden should be replaced by a younger candidate.
“To be honest, it’s not fair for me to say that because I’m not a lifelong Democrat,” he said. “What I tell my Democratic friends is, tell me who the candidate is. I’m going to work tirelessly for that candidate because I understand the danger that (Trump) poses to our society.
He fiercely criticized Trump’s rhetoric at a Florida rally on Tuesday, expressing “disgust” with the former president’s “crazy stream of consciousness” rants, which he said were laced with racist dog-whistles that “play well with certain groups.”
The businessman called for more transparency from the Biden campaign and for the president to be allowed more media appearances.
“He has to go out there and prove that he can do it,” he said.
The Biden campaign has been in disarray for the past two weeks since his failed presidential debate performance, with concerns raised about his stamina and ability to beat Trump.
President Trump held his first post-debate campaign rally at his Doral Golf Club on Tuesday, spewing lies, fear-mongering, outlandish asides and attacks on Biden and other political foes.
