Amazon On Monday, it announced the $79 Echo Spot alarm clock with a new design and improved audio quality.
The company added a display that lets users check the time, weather, or see what song is playing. Amazon also put a better speaker on the front of the device, which it said delivers clearer vocals and deeper bass.
This is the first upgrade to the device since Amazon launched the Echo Spot in 2017. The previous version, which Amazon sold for $129, also had a semicircular design, but it now has a full-size display and camera.
Amazon has announced that members of its $139-a-year Prime program can get the new Echo Spot for $44.99 during its Prime Day Mega Sale, which runs through July 17.
Amazon is updating the Echo Spot as it looks to completely overhaul Alexa, the voice assistant that powers the smart speaker, CNBC previously reported. The company typically makes a number of announcements about its Echo and Alexa product lines at its fall event, usually in September.
