John Boyega’s character in the same film also sparked backlash. John said he also felt his character was marginalized. “When you get into a project, you might not like everything about it,” John said in a GQ interview. “(But) what I would say to Disney is, take out black characters, market them as being much more important to the franchise than they really are, and then push them to the side. That’s not good. I’d say get it straight.”
