“The important thing is that he is hungry. He is determined to do well,” Rahane said of Rohit on the eve of Mumbai’s next match, which starts on Thursday. “I’m sure he’ll do great things once he gets in.
“He batted really well in the two (net) sessions yesterday, so that’s part and parcel of his career, I’m really confident in Rohit.
“Rohit is always relaxed. Even at international competitions, his personality is similar. His attitude is quite relaxed. He knows his game so well that he doesn’t need anyone to tell him what to do.”
“I’m sure once I get into it, everything will go well. It’s really nice to see someone who has never changed.”
After the next round, when Mumbai hosts Jammu & Kashmir at home, Rohit will take on England in the Champions Trophy against India in the three-match ODI series starting from February 6.
Commenting on Rohit’s availability, Rahane said, “I think he is only playing this game. I am not sure about the next game.” “His opinion over the next four days is going to be really important.”
Mumbai also have Jaiswal in the coming rounds, but he has been one of India’s best batsmen on the Australian tour, hitting 161 in Perth at the start of the series and hitting two half-centuries in Melbourne. Rahane said the return of Rohit and Jaiswal will add a lot of value to the dressing room as well.
“As a team (and) individually, the players are reaching out to them, asking questions and learning from them,” Rahane said. “Once they get out on the pitch, I’m sure the players will watch them and learn a lot from them.”
Rohit and Jaiswal are expected to open together for a star-studded Mumbai line-up that will also see Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube and Shardul Thakur along with other homegrown stars like Shams Mulani, Siddhesh Lad and Tanush Kotian.
