Following a successful proof-of-concept pilot in 2023, Agility recently announced a multi-year agreement with GXO Logistics, Inc. to use Digit robots in GXO warehouses.
“There will be many firsts in the humanoid robot market in the future. But we’re very proud that Agility is the first product to deploy real humanoid robots at customer sites to drive revenue and solve real businesses. said Peggy Johnson, CEO of Agility Robotics. “Agility has always been focused on delivering value to our customers by leveraging the only metric that matters: Digit. This milestone deployment raises the bar for the entire industry.”
Digital Leverage — GXO | Agility Robotics
Digit, a mobile manipulator robot (MMR) with a payload capacity of 15.9 kg (35 lbs), is perhaps best known for its unique ‘backwards-facing’ legs. Under the RaaS agreement, GXO will deploy Digit Fleet and Agility Arc, a cloud-based automation platform that provides full robot control and simplifies processes such as facility mapping, workflow definition, operations management and troubleshooting.
Digit and Agility Arc integrate with the Spanx factory’s existing automation. Following last year’s pilot, Digit will support repetitive tasks, such as taking totes from other robots and placing them on conveyors.
“We are building on the success of our groundbreaking pilot with Agility last year by deploying a fully functional Digit humanoid in a real-world warehouse environment,” said Adrian Stoch, GXO’s Chief Automation Officer. “Our R&D approach is to work with developers around the world to help build and validate real-world use cases that improve the work environment for employees while optimizing our customers’ operations. Agility shares this philosophy, and Digit is the perfect addition to work alongside employees in fulfillment centers. We are excited to advance our partnership through this important milestone.”
The RaaS agreement also allows the two companies to explore additional use cases for Digit and scale robot usage on demand throughout the deployment period.
Digit is already the winner of Robot of the Year at the RBR50 Robotics Innovation Awards in early 2024.
