Singer Kid Rock came under heavy fire this week after a Rolling Stone reporter claimed the singer brandished a gun and used the N-word repeatedly during a magazine interview.
Kid Rock, born Robert James Ritchie, recently sat down for an interview with David Peisner, who published an extensive profile of the musician Sunday night. The profile, titled “How Kid Rock went from America’s favorite hard-party rock star to MAGA mouthpiece,” detailed Rock’s rise to fame and his subsequent rise to high-profile figure in the far-right movement.
In an interview at Rock’s home music studio, Peisner said the two discussed political topics including the 2024 presidential election, transgender rights and illegal immigration. At one point, the ‘Picture’ singer pulled out a pistol and waved it around.
“Now I’ve been sober for a long time,” Peisner wrote, “but Ritchie swapped his white wine for Jim Beam and Diet Coke.” “He burns through at least three or four of them pretty quickly. “He was sitting in a dark leather chair, yelling at me about various things, and then he reached behind the seat and pulled out a black pistol and was waving it around to make a point.”
“And I’ve got a fucking gun right here if you need it,” Kid Rock said, according to Peisner. “It’s everywhere!”
Peisner said they continued to discuss American history, including slavery and the killing of Native Americans. When asked if he was on the wrong side of history, Kid Rock responded, “No, it was the Republicans who freed the slaves!”
Peisner noted that the Republican Party at the time was a progressive party.
Kid Rock claimed that Detroit rapper Trick Trick, who is black, supported Rock’s support for former President Trump and called the rapper a racial slur.
“It’s worth mentioning that this wasn’t the only time Ritchie dropped the N-word during my visit,” Peisner said. “It’s easy to classify this as the ranting of a drunken racist, but like everything Ritchie does, it’s hard to know how calculated it was.”
“Are you just trying to get a reaction? When this story comes out, is he begging for a laugh so he can launch into a very public tirade against ‘cancel culture’? Is this all just a play to get more attention?” Peisner added.
The Hill has reached out to Kid Rock’s representative for comment.
Kid Rock’s right-wing views have made him increasingly polarized over the years. This is a concept he acknowledged in his conversation with Peisner.
“I’m part of the problem,” Kid Rock said. “I am one of those polarizing people. There is no doubt about it. Sometimes I’m talking about other people and I look in the mirror and I think, ‘Oh, okay, why don’t you just shut up?’”
“This is a rich man’s problem,” he added. “No, there are still more left. I may not get it right every time, but I know my heart is right. “I want to do my best for this country.”
The “All Summer Long” singer made headlines last year after calling for a nationwide boycott of Bud Light over the brand’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. In a video posted to social media, the musician wore a ‘MAGA’ hat and shot a can of Bud Light in protest against the partnership.
In 2022, the performer released a song criticizing Anthony Fauci and COVID-19 mitigation policies. The lyrics say, “We all have the right to scream ‘F— you!'”
