Jordan Midler of videogameschronicle.com appears to have hinted that Bend Studios will be remastering Days Gone.
If you’re thinking, “Wait a minute, Days Gone came out in 2019?” you’re absolutely right. The action-adventure game starring Deacon, a biker turned zombie killer, came out in 2019, and there’s already a PS5 patch that makes the game run more smoothly.
But that doesn’t seem to be enough to stop Sony from remastering it. Insider Jeff Grubb recently discussed the Horizon Zero Dawn remaster that was posted on the ESRB website. During the chat, Grubb mentioned that he heard that the upcoming PlayStation State of Play, which hasn’t been officially confirmed, will include “another remaster” that will be “much less exciting” than Horizon.
In this set, people are speculating about what kind of remasters Sony might be working on, but one person seems pretty certain that he knows exactly what Sony will announce. Enter Jordan Midler, podcaster and writer for VGC.
In response to a tweet focused on Grubb’s revelations, Jordan replied, “If he’s upset about his character being in Astro Bot, he’s going to lose his mind about it.”
Jordan’s comments are a mockery of Days Gone’s creative director, John Garvin, who was fired from Bend Studios. Garvin has had quite a bad reputation since leaving the studio, often criticizing his former team, Sony, reviewers, etc. for Days Gone’s relatively small level of success.
Just recently, Gavin tweeted at the Days Gone protagonist for his cameo appearance in Astro Bot, saying, “Haha, are you being harsh when my character is reduced to a cartoon kid promoting small game? Sit down, bro, the adults are talking.”
Middler’s comments are aimed directly at Garvin, but there’s also a strong implication that the upcoming remaster is for Days Gone. If true, it would be an embarrassing decision for Sony. Why bother remastering a game that’s only five years old? I actually loved Days Gone, but I have absolutely no desire for a remaster. But if true, it’s so exceptionally well-made that I’m hoping a sequel will finally be made.
Besides, if Sony is willing to spend money on remastering a relatively new game like Days Gone, why wouldn’t they spend that money on re-releasing something that was much more commercially and critically successful, like God of War? You can only assume someone at Bend Studios would be resourceful enough to pull this off. If that’s true.
