It’s been more than a year and a half since Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket failed mid-flight, and more than two years since the last manned flight. Now the company plans to launch six humans into space. The company’s launch window begins at 6:30 a.m. PT/9:30 a.m. ET, but streaming begins 40 minutes earlier on its website.
Blue Origin also typically streams launches live on its YouTube channel, so it’s very likely they will do so for tomorrow’s NS-25 mission. If the launch goes as planned, the spacecraft will carry six passengers, including 90-year-old Ed Dwight, a candidate for America’s first black astronaut but who has never been in space. Other passengers were Mason Angel, Sylvain Chiron, Kenneth L. Hess, Carol Schaller and Gopi Thotakura.
The Federal Aviation Administration closed its investigation of the accident last September and required Blue Origin to take 21 corrective actions, including redesigning engine and nozzle components, to prevent future failures. In December, Blue Origin launched 33 science payloads into space for NASA and other agencies. The capsule and booster were later successfully recovered.
