In a recent blog post, Ubisoft outlined its plans to monetize XDefiant, its upcoming completely free-to-play first-person shooter. As you might expect, there will be a variety of optional purchases in XDefiant, but Ubisoft has promised that there will be no ‘pay-to-win’ mechanism. The full analysis provided below details how you can spend your money on XDefiant.
‘Amazing customization options’
Ubisoft emphasized an important point by boldly stating that XDefiant will have no Pay-to-Win elements. It has been confirmed that all ‘content that affects gameplay’ can be purchased and obtained within the game. This means users can either get their hands on something right away or grind the game and unlock it over time.
XDefiant says it will reward players for the time and effort they put into the game. This means that even if you lose consecutively, you can still be rewarded with experience points and content. Here are the types of rewards you can unlock as you progress through the game:
- Battle Pass Rewards
- In-Game Challenges
- Ubisoft Connect Challenge
- Weapon Mastery
- Participation Rewards
Ubisoft has confirmed that customization is key to the game.
Our goal is to provide you with incredible customization options that reward you for every match, win, and even loss you take part in. We know it’s important to be able to display your identity as a player, so customization will be at the core of the XDefiant experience.
To achieve this, players can unlock and purchase:
- character skin
- weapon skin
- MVP Player Animation
- player card
- emoticon pack
Additionally, when players start playing XDefiant, they will be prompted to purchase the Premium Battle Pass. However, there is also a free route that offers players the following rewards: less prestigious Unlock.
