President Biden called former President Trump “that loser” during his speech at the Asia-Pacific American Congressional Center’s (APAICS) annual gala on Tuesday.
In his speech, Biden took aim at Trump for his role in destroying a bipartisan border agreement that initially had support from the most staunch conservatives. Biden urged Republicans to “act” on the bill.
“That bipartisan bill received majority support in the House and Senate. But I was told it was that other guy, that loser,” Biden said, referring to the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.
Biden paused as the crowd laughed in response to the comment.
“I think he’s having a problem. Trump called Republicans to block the Senate bill, saying they should make sure you don’t allow the bill to get to a vote because it would be a win and a loss for Biden. .
“But he was wrong. Republicans in Congress must act because it is the right thing to do, and America must do it,” Biden added.
Earlier this year, Trump criticized a bipartisan border security deal crafted in part by conservative Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla.), calling it a “death wish” for Republicans and a “great gift to Democrats.”
The agreement includes $20 billion for border security and gives the federal government new powers to control the border, including temporary authority to expel immigrants if the average number of daily crossings exceeds established thresholds. . The agreement would also seek to end “catch and release,” raise asylum screening standards, and process claims more quickly, among other things.
The agreement was attached to national security funding for Ukraine, Israel and their Indo-Pacific allies, but that portion passed on its own after the border security agreement collapsed.
The Hill has reached out to Trump’s team for comment.
