Top 10 Global Emerging Technologies
Here are the top 10 global emerging technology topics accessible on Udemy:

“Certifications are incredibly powerful currency in the tech community,” Scott Rogers, Udemy’s senior vice president of instructor and content strategy, said in an email to TechRepublic. “It is widely recognized by businesses around the world who increasingly require certification for key technical roles in cloud computing, project management and security.”
Rogers reported that more than 10 million people enrolled in Udemy’s IT certification courses last year.

Some of the most recent technologies on Udemy that reflect the tech industry include:

- Oracle SQL.

- Amazon AWS and AWS Certified Cloud Expert.

“We’ve seen our customers leverage Udemy to assist with certification preparation and significantly increase the likelihood of IT professionals passing their certification exams,” Rogers said.
English as a second language, sustainability, and ChatGPT were also popular topics.
One of Udemy’s most popular courses is the TOEIC test, the Standard for English as a Second Language for Business. Udemy blames this on multinational companies using English as their primary language. Udemy learners were also interested in Spanish, with the language ranking sixth in the top 10 global emerging skills list.

Courses related to the environment, society, and governance were very popular. Overall, ESG course consumption on Udemy increased 3,128% year over year. The only topic more popular than ESG is ChatGPT. (Interest in ChatGPT-related courses increased 5,226% in the first quarter of 2023 alone.) ESG-related topics available in Udemy courses include corporate sustainability, DEI, and the business case for corporate ESG.
Technical skills in demand according to LinkedIn, Indeed, and CompTIA
Udemy isn’t the only place to find IT skills courses, and the skills popular on Udemy aren’t the only ones employers are looking for.
LinkedIn ranked artificial intelligence and machine learning as the most in-demand IT skills in 2024, followed by data science and cybersecurity. In fact, it turns out that generative AI is the highest paying field in the industry. The Computing Technology Industry Association lists the following as the top five IT skills in high demand in 2024:
- A.I.
- Technical support.
- Networking.
- Cloud computing.
- Linux.
Technology is a growing and profitable field.
There were nearly 364,000 job postings for technical occupations in December 2023, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Computer and information technology occupations are expected to grow faster than most occupations from 2022 to 2032, with the average annual salary in that field being $104,420. May 2023.
