In a speech to supporters in Seattle, President Biden said former President Trump “fell out” after losing the 2020 presidential election.
“It’s clear something clicked for him when he lost in 2020,” Biden said at the fundraiser, according to reporters in the room. “Not only is he obsessed with losing in 2020, he’s clearly distraught. Listen to what he tells people.”
First reported by CNN, Biden was reflecting on what is different about this election cycle as the same two candidates prepare for a rematch.
Biden’s remarks follow the fourth week of Trump’s silencing incident in Manhattan, and is a historic first for a current or former U.S. president.
He also said he feels good about where his campaign is, but acknowledged it will be another tight race.
“I feel good about the state of the primary, but I know the race is close,” Biden said.
Biden has said he is confident, but he still trails Trump in most polls. Trump leads Biden by 0.02% in national polls, according to Decision Desk HQ/The Hill.
The Hill has reached out to the Biden campaign for further comment on his statement.
CNN reported that this fundraiser was held at the home of former Microsoft executive Jon Shirley.
Biden told donors he would do his best “to not disappoint you.”
