Sometimes in sports, you have no choice but to cover for a bad guy because he’s doing something that can’t be ignored. That’s not what Trevor Bauer is, It didn’t stop Bob Nightingale from auditioning to get paid.Next to Rachel Luba, she doesn’t care what she does other than step away every now and then.
Nightingale was only too happy to gloss over the reasons Bauer was kicked out of the major leagues and defend Bauer’s completely pointless elimination against the Dodgers minor leaguers. Nightingale was also keen to point out that there were fans cheering Bauer and no one was booing him, oblivious to the fact that he could find 100 loons willing to support any cause. Hell, as we all learned in the last election, you can find 70 million people to do that. Just because there was no one around to boo doesn’t mean the baseball world has forgiven Bauer. We all successfully banished him to the haunted land of wind and baseball and were pretty safe that he would stay there. Also, who else but assholes who want the world to know that sexual assault is not a disqualifying factor would bother going to a backfield game that doesn’t involve MLB players?
Nightingale could have left it all alone like everyone else did, but perhaps he couldn’t help picking at the scabs (Bauer was a particularly pus-filled one). He only mentioned that Bauer was suspended for violating MLB’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy, but did not mention the horrible things Bauer was accused of. majority At least the women were trustworthy enough for MLB to kick him out of the league.
It didn’t matter to the Nightingales as much as what Bauer hit on the radar gun or how some minor leaguers couldn’t hit him. As if there were any doubts about Bauer’s talent or that this was a comeback story due to injury or age. This is another infuriating example of the assumption that, like many other issues, there are two sides to sports issues. It started out as an epidemic of Skip Bayless yelling about something at someone, kind of like the typical tornado siren test, but it slipped into much darker territory. Just because Bauer is suspended and wants to pitch again in MLB doesn’t mean someone should take his case or that he has the right to do so.
Bauer lost his privileges as an MLB player, and everyone is happier that way. There is no salvation arc here. And the nightingale doesn’t have to make it just because it feels good. Let Bauer take the world of nowhere that he has earned. Then we will all move on. But then again, Nightingale has always existed in her own stupid world. Perhaps that’s why he was attracted to Bauer in the first place.
USWNT rebounds
The USWNT at least managed to win some sort of W Gold Cup. They got through the semifinals against Canada in a sort of tug-of-war fashion, then played actual soccer in the final against Brazil on Sunday, winning 1-0.
Did they play free and artistic football? Well, no, not really, but as I said during the loss to Mexico, most teams are still in the NWSL preseason and lack sharpness. It’s no surprise that Lindsey Horan or Korbin Albert were the most notable players ahead of the European season.
That doesn’t mean there weren’t any positives. The USWNT used a 4-4-2 diamond formation in the finals, something they had never seen before. Sam Coffey and Albert broke down the ball in midfield, providing the kind of attack the team hasn’t had for some time. In fact, Coffey’s instinct and spirit led to his only goal of the game.
Brazil probably put together better moves, but managed no shots on target in the first half thanks to the iron curtain of Naomi Girma and Tiena Davidson. The United States looked lively on the counter after making a move in midfield, which means they will most likely still be playing even with the arrival of Emma Hayes this summer.
The win doesn’t completely erase the loss to Mexico, but it largely does. If you have the advantage, your team will find themselves vulnerable to any opponent and won’t be able to get too many nights off. There was a lot of experimentation with personnel and tactics, which probably helped give Hayes plenty of video and balance the different fitness levels of the squad members. We have seen three back and four back systems with wingers and no wingers. Hayes said he would certainly have samples of any system he would like to use.
Coffey improved on the tournament after her unforgettable performance against Mexico, and she is still the best option at the base of midfield, resisting on-the-ball attacks and pressure with the ball and delivering direct attacks. Albert also announced her presence. All in all, it’s pretty useful.
