The classic MOBA of 2010 is bothering the return.

In the late 2000s and early 2010s, there were clear MOBA winners, but everyone who was a fan of the genre heard about NEWERTH or HON’s game heroes. Most players adhered to other MOBA titles, such as League of Legends and Dota 2, but Newerth’s HEROES has a large mass of market share in the biggest rise of the MOBA genre and ESPORTS scenes. Sadly, NEWERTH heroes announced that they would close the server in 2022. But the life span was short because I just announced revenue.

Their social page has been suddenly posting random messages and trolling players on the Facebook page since January 1, 2025. The last post came back in 2021. The player base was decreasing, but there was still a dedicated community.

Even when the server ends, even a player who doesn’t play the game was deeply sad about the news. Perhaps this is why the team returns and uses the shutdown as a marketing tool to return the player to a new and better version.

There are also a few games where players are waiting for the “Reborn” presentation, such as Heroes of the Storm.

What will NEWERTH’s heroes bring to a very competitive Moba genre?

When NEWERTH’s heroes appeared, Dota 1 was already a “founder” of the MOBA genre, and League of Legends was still trying to gain market share. Hon was faster than DOTA 1 and wanted to mix two more complex games than the League of Legends.

The player has a direct imitation of DOTA 1 because it has several champion designs and mechanics, which are very similar to the popular heroes of DOTA 1. But the player didn’t care about faster gameplay and didn’t like it. NEWERTH heroes got big chunks of market share, but at that time they were still lower than League of Legends.

DOTA 1 was decreasing, but DOTA 2 is already approaching quickly and acquired Hon Player base as Esports Definition Prize Pool and Tournament. The soul was never the same and started slow corruption over the years.

NEWERTH heroes still bring a lot to the table, but only if you try something new. Since League of Legends and DOTA 2 have evolved for a long time, NEWERTH’s hero is again “new child of block.” They must be interested and survive by pushing new things in the genre.

LOL and DOTA 2 are now very fast and were Hon’s bread and butter, so it’s interesting to see what they think about.
