We can’t get enough of Pokemon collabs. Especially when the results are sweet. The recently revealed collaboration with Krispy Kreme Donuts is both a disappointment and a relief. These adorable donuts are currently sold exclusively in Korea, making it a bit difficult for many fans to try them for themselves. But at least we don’t have to schedule an extra visit to the dentist or worry about biting into a donut that’s too cute to eat.
The six boxes come with Kanto-centric donuts featuring Pokemon Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Ditto, Psyduck, and Diglett, as well as regular glazed donuts. They’re all precious, and while the actual donuts aren’t as perfect as the promotional images, they add to the appeal, as you can see in the fan photo above posted by Twitter user @JihyeandKorea. I’m surprised to say that Diglett is my favorite in the looks department. Chocolate Diglett isn’t just icing on the face, it’s part of the entire earthy scene on top of the donut.
Diglett also seems like a winner in the flavor department, but tragically we won’t be able to test it ourselves in the near future. According to Instagram user Snackolator, Diglett’s donuts are dark chocolate flavored. Jigglypuff is a regular donut filled with strawberry cream (not sure if the icing is also strawberry flavored). It’s a classic combination that goes very well with Pokemon. Ditto’s have a strawberry milk cream topping and a sprinkle of confetti underneath adds a delicious twist. In the case of Pikachu and Psyduck, one is described as a lemon and the other as ‘Corn Cream’, but it doesn’t say which is which.
While it’s disappointing that many fans outside of Korea won’t be able to try these donuts, the real loss comes in the form of adorable plush keychains featuring donuts from Pikachu, Ditto, and Snorlax, as shown above. No matter how cute or delicious the donuts are, the first thing that makes me think of them is this stuffed toy. Although it may be unlikely that this keychain will be released internationally, at least we’ll be able to appreciate it in our hearts, which will also be evident in the donuts we don’t eat.
