It seems like fans have been waiting for official news about Nintendo Switch 2 for thousands of years. Meanwhile, leaks, both real and fake, have spread across the internet as fans wait for official news. Today is finally the day. Nintendo uploaded the “first trailer” for the Nintendo Switch 2 without any fanfare.
As you might expect from such a stealthy upload, the trailer doesn’t give us many specific details. The Switch 2 will be noticeably larger than its predecessor, and you’ll notice that the kickstand is also larger and can lie almost completely flat. Perhaps the most interesting change is that the Joy-Cons are now fixed to the screen horizontally rather than vertically. This seems to make attaching and detaching the Joy-Cons easier compared to the process involved with the original Switch.
Nintendo is generally known to embrace bright colors on its consoles, but the launch Switch 2 shown in the trailer opts for a matte, smoky black with only small pops of red and blue underneath the joysticks and the inner buttons of the Joy-Cons. console. This may help distinguish Switch 2 from the original switch. We don’t want another confusing Wii U situation to happen. This helps the Switch 2 look like its own product and not like other models like the Lite or OLED.
The trailer appears to confirm that there will be a Mario Kart game for the Switch 2 and that the Switch 2 will be able to play most of the original Switch games, both physical and digital. But while the Mario Kart game may just be a tech demo, we still have hope.
The system is scheduled to launch in 2025, and with a Nintendo Direct featuring a ‘closer look’ scheduled for April 2nd, it’s safe to say the console won’t be released before then.
Following Nintendo Direct, the ‘Nintendo Switch 2 Experience’ ‘Experience Event’ will also be held throughout the United States in April. The event will be held at Center415 in New York from April 4-6, at Television City in Los Angeles from April 11-13, and at the Embarcadero Building at Fair Park in Dallas from April 25-27. Admission is required to attend. Enter the ticket draw using your Nintendo Account on the official website.
It may be another long time without news about the Switch 2, but after what seemed like an eternity waiting for an announcement, the next three months leading up to the Nintendo Direct will go by in a flash.
