PlayStation has announced which games will be included in this month’s PlayStation Plus Extra catalog, and as usual, the list also includes a few classic titles coming to Premium.
First up is an old-fashioned adventure in the form of Indiana Jones and the King’s Wand. This classic indie game was developed by LucasArts and released on PlayStation 2 in 2009 to fairly middling reviews.
Like previous emulated releases, this version includes several notable upgrades.
“First released on PlayStation 2 in 2009, Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings takes you on a perilous adventure around the world in search of the Staff of Moses. This classic third-person action adventure is enhanced with uprendering, rewinding, quick saving and custom video filters. Grab your whip and prepare for a thrilling journey in true Indiana Jones tradition.”
Perhaps Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings was chosen as a way to tie in with the recent release of the excellent Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which is coming to PS5 this year.
Another game joining the service is Medievil 2. The first game was released in remastered form a while ago, of course, so it’s nice to see the sequel become easier to play, even if it doesn’t get the full remaster treatment.
“It is the sequel to MediEvil, released on the original PlayStation in 2000. Featuring uprendering, rewinding, quick saving and custom video filters, this new and improved version puts you in the shoes of Sir as you take on dark powers and unspeakable magic. Daniel Fortesque returns from the grave to thwart the evil wizard’s plans. Arm yourself with powerful weapons including swords, daggers, crossbows, hammers, and the occasional chicken leg. Solve sinister puzzles and riddles and face fearsome enemies that would strike fear into the bravest soul. All of this is set to a spine-chilling soundtrack.”
As usual, the official blog post is missing a few details. Firstly, trophy support is not mentioned. This varies significantly from release to release. Since every other PlayStation first-party title has benefited from trophies, it’s fairly safe to assume that Medievil 2 will have full support for trophies. But Indiana Jones is more uncertain.
Second, the post doesn’t confirm whether the two games can be purchased separately or only through a premium subscription. Again, this has varied in the past.
Both games are scheduled to be released starting January 21st.
