Senate Majority Leader John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said he believed President-elect Trump would issue a “storm of executive orders” once he takes office.
Barrasso appeared on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” on Sunday and was asked about Senate confirmation of Trump’s Cabinet nominations and the start of Trump’s second term.
“With all the Cabinet hearings this week, things are starting to look encouraging,” he said.
Barrasso added, “And when President Trump takes office next Monday, he will be shocked and awed by the executive orders and the torrent of executive orders on the economy and borders.”
President Trump said he has a variety of things on his to-do list when he takes office, many of them controversial.
The president-elect plans to carry out a large-scale deportation effort, but immigration advocates question how he can realistically implement the idea.
He also said he plans to pardon the defendants who stormed the Capitol four years ago on January 6, 2021.
Barrasso said part of his job is to help Trump carry out his plans by confirming the candidates he selects to form a second administration.
“I’ve met almost all of them,” he said. “I support all of these candidates. My job as whip is to get them across the finish line and get to work.”
Barrasso said he would work “around the clock” if Democrats tried to complicate the nomination process.
