Update, May 24: Details about Xiaomi’s new drone have been leaked ahead of its unveiling tomorrow. Quote Source bloomberg The Mi Drone is manufactured by FIMI Technology and is said to record 4K video. As expected, Xiaomi will be pricing it very competitively. The device will be sold for 4,000 yuan (about $610). It may seem expensive, but it’s actually 20% cheaper than a similar 4K drone from market leader DJI.

The brief teaser shows a rather traditional-looking quadcopter with a spherical camera built into it. The large camera is mounted on a pivot and appears to be capable of capturing video in 360 degrees.
The video promises that more details will be revealed during a live launch event on the evening of May 25th.
According to previous reports, the Xiaomi drone is expected to capture 4K content. Users can control it via a dedicated smartphone app or the Mi Band wearable.
As more consumers and businesses recognize the potential of drones, the electronics industry is exploring new avenues for growth. Component manufacturers like Qualcomm already have dedicated drone solutions, making them more accessible. Drones are becoming more intelligent with the inclusion of technologies first developed for mobile applications, such as Google’s Tango and Intel’s RealSense.
