WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal appeals court has cleared the way for the release of Special Counsel Jack Smith’s report on the 2020 election interference case against Donald Trump, despite the president-elect’s objections.
On Thursday, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit rejected a challenge by President Trump and his co-defendants in the classified documents case to block the release of the report.
The report was not immediately released. A lower court ruling by U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon, appointed by President Trump, temporarily blocking release of the report remains in its third day. And there may be more appeals.
The Justice Department plans to release a book Wednesday detailing Smith’s findings into President Trump’s efforts to reverse his 2020 election loss, but will keep sections on Trump’s classified documents case private pending legal proceedings against his co-defendants. He said he would maintain it.
