Novak Djokovic has shared his thoughts on teaming up with Nick Kyrgios in doubles at the 2025 Brisbane International. Both players will also play singles in the ATP 250 tournament.
Djokovic and Kyrgios took the court on Monday, December 30, marking the former’s first match of 2025 and the latter’s return to action after 18 months. The pair received a doubles wildcard and won 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-8 in a thrilling match that lasted one hour and 48 minutes against Andreas Miles and Alexander Erler.
After the win, Djokovic described playing alongside Kyrgios as a “pleasure” in an on-court interview amidst the crowd’s buzz and admitted to following the Australian’s lead for the most part throughout the match.
“I would like to thank Nick for playing. He said the other day that it would be fun to play with him. And yes, it is. “I’m happy,” said the Serb.
“I’m excited to share the court with him on his comeback. I haven’t played much doubles in the last five years. “Whatever Nick said, I actually followed,” he added.
Djokovic’s comments came in response to comments Kyrgios made before the start of his doubles campaign in Brisbane. The Australian told media:
“What I mean is, everyone thinks it’s fun to play with him. In reality, it’s fun to play with me. Let’s be real.”
