Stephen Warnock has explained that his ‘gut’ told him Trent Alexander-Arnold would leave Liverpool for Real Madrid at the end of the season.
The Reds defender is out of contract at Anfield this summer and was the target of an approach by the La Liga giants on New Year’s Eve.
The Scouser put in a much lower performance against Manchester United on Sunday, sparking once again conversations about where the England international’s future lies.
Ex-Red Warnock is not 100% sure what decision the No.66 will make, but is now weighing in on the situation.
“Perhaps at the start of the season he would not have expected Liverpool to be so strong in both competitions, nor would he have seen Real Madrid decimated in the way they have struggled this season.” Warnock explained to spinbet.com (as quoted by DAZN):
“We all know Madrid have a strong second half of the season and he probably feels he can add to that. I’m still wondering what Trent will do. Liverpool fans want him to stay because it will be very difficult to see him captain and potentially lift trophies in the future. We also know what Madrid has to offer.
“My gut tells me it will be summer when he leaves.”
It remains to be seen what happens in the remainder of the January transfer window and at the end of the season.
We can’t see Liverpool allowing a player of Alexander-Arnold’s caliber to leave mid-season. Even if it means he gets away for free in the summer.
It makes absolutely no sense to lose him midway when we are doing so well in every way.
The academy graduate could end up signing a new contract with the club, but it is the uncertainty that is currently frustrating supporters.
It is unclear whether he wants to remain at the club. The biggest difference between our number 66 and Virgil van Dijk compared to Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk is that the latter duo have made it clear that they want to remain on Merseyside beyond the end of the current campaign. .
We must not allow title claims to be halted by ongoing contract cases.
Anything will happen.
