In Cape Town, SA posted a first innings total of 615 runs, including a double century (259) from opener Ryan Rickletone and hundreds from Bavuma (106) and wicketkeeper-batsman Kyle Verreynne (100).
The home side’s bowlers also performed well to restrict Pakistan to 194 runs, which allowed South Africa to enforce the follow-on.
Despite Pakistan captain Shan Masood’s valiant effort of 145 runs, his side struggled to mount a significant challenge in the second innings and were only able to take a 57-run lead, giving the SA openers a comprehensive win in just 7.1 overs.
South Africa secured the top spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) table with a PCT of 69.44. They will face defending champions Australia in the WTC final at Lord’s in June this year.
