The Miami Heat have suspended Jimmy Butler. The team announced in a statement Friday that he was suspended for seven games as a result of “multiple conduct detrimental to the team.”
“We have suspended Jimmy Butler for seven games for a number of instances of conduct detrimental to the team throughout the season, but especially over the past few weeks,” the statement said.
The Heat’s decision to suspend Butler follows the star forward’s comments that he no longer finds “fun” in Miami and a report from ESPN that he would be happy playing “anywhere” other than the Heat.
“Through his actions and comments, he has shown that he no longer wants to be part of this team,” he added. “Jimmy Butler and his agent have indicated they want to be traded, so we will listen to offers.
Heat president Pat Riley previously issued a statement saying Butler would not be traded, but Butler’s public frustration appears to have caused the organization to reconsider its stance.
Butler, 35, averaged 17.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game this season.
The Heat (17-15) is ranked 6th in the Eastern Conference.
