In 2024, more than 60 elections will be held globally, many of them controversial. It has undoubtedly been a divisive year, both within and beyond our borders. The war in Ukraine is now three years old. Syrian rebels toppled the Assad regime after years of fighting. When the Prime Minister declared martial law and was impeached, the Republic of Korea fell into chaos. In the United States, President Joe Biden gave up his presidential bid and supported Vice President Kamala Harris, but ultimately lost to Donald Trump.
Despite the tumultuous and seemingly endless wave of current events, people still found escape and unity in the Olympics, Brat summers and rampaging pygmy hippos.
In 2024, many people around the world have voted for change. We’ll find out what that means by 2025.
