Bangladesh U-19 198 (Hosan 47, James 40, Guha 2-29, Raji 2-41) India U-19 139 (Aman 26, Raji 24, Judge 3-8, Eamonn 3-24) by 59 runs.
Chasing 199, India were all out for 139 in 35.2 overs, ending a horror Sunday in which the men’s Test and women’s ODI teams suffered heavy defeats.
Mohammad Shihab James and Rizan Hossan stitched a 62-run stand for the fourth wicket to revive the Bangladesh innings, but wickets in quick succession robbed them of the momentum they had built.
James went off first on 40, dismissed by Ayush Mhatre in the 32nd over, while Debasish Deba was dropped eight balls later by KP Karthikeya. Raj was bowled out for 47 by Hossan, Samiun Basir and Al Fahad fell in the space of an over and Bangladesh slipped from 128 for 32 to 167 for 8 for 42.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Farid Hasan and Maruf Mridha added a crucial 30-run stand for the ninth wicket before Bangladesh were bowled out for 198 runs in the last over.
However, India failed to catch up from the beginning. Mhatre started in the second innings off the bowling of Fahad, while 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was dropped in the fifth after hitting two fours. India were struggling at 3 for 44 in 12 overs when C Andre Siddharth became Hossan’s first victim.
Skipper Mohamed Amaan and Karthikeya added a brief 29-run stand for the fourth wicket, but soon Emon brought about the collapse and there was no way back for India. The medium pacer first caught Karthikeya behind for 21 and then sent the ball back to Nikhil Kumar two balls later. In his next over, he removed Harvansh Pangalia as India were reduced to 81 for 6 in 23 overs.
They were 92 for 7 when Fahad removed Kiran Chormale to give ‘keeper Farid a fourth catch of the innings. Amaan and Raj tried to delay the inevitable but the game was as good as over when Hakim removed the opposition number in the 32nd over.
Hakim took the last three wickets to spark jubilant scenes in the Bangladesh camp.
