Baku, Azerbaijan, December 25. Fourteen Azerbaijani citizens survived the crash of an Azerbaijani Airlines plane near Aktau, Kazakh Transport Minister Marat Karabayev said at a briefing held today.
“Among the passengers were 37 Azerbaijani nationals, of whom 23 died and 14 survived. There were 3 from Kyrgyzstan who survived. At the same time, there were 16 Russian nationals, of whom 7 died and 9 survived. There were also Kazakhstanis. Six passengers from also died,” the minister said.
He also noted that both pilots were killed.
“Three more crew members survived,” said M. Karabayev.
This morning, the Embraer 190 passenger plane flying on the Baku-Grozny route crashed 3 km from Aktau Airport. According to preliminary data, there were 37 citizens of Azerbaijan, 6 citizens of Kazakhstan, 3 citizens of Kyrgyzstan and 16 citizens of Russia on board the plane.
AZAL announced that a total of 67 people were on board the Embraer 190 flight from Baku to Grozny that crashed in the city of Aktau, including 62 passengers and 5 crew members.
Azerbaijan declared mourning on December 26 over the plane crash.
